Powertrain Generator System - Modular Generator Control System (MGCS)
BESST Engineering has developed a modular, generator control system (MGCS) for Powertrains. The system is suitable for deployment in package generator applications. Typically, the package comprises a generator and auxiliary systems, such as exhaust, fire detection, ventilation and cooling. The MGCS is a field bus network that interfaces digital and analogue inputs / outputs from the package generator and the ancillary systems to the package controller.
The MGCS uses a field bus network to interface digital and analogue inputs / outputs from the package generator and the ancillary systems to the package controller. The Powertrain is a modular unit of power generation.

Benefits of the modular generator control system over conventional, hard-wired, control systems are:
- Reduced time to design and issue for construction
- Lower installation and wiring costs
- Faster delivery of the generator package
- Enables standardized sub-assemblies
- Standardized interface to the generator and station controllers
- Network testing and commissioning independent of the generator and station controllers
- Integration of functional safety
- Integration of intrinsically safe inputs for zone 2 hazardous area applications
- Suitable for diesel and gas fuelled generators
- Standardized software interface for configuration and testing
- Interoperable, multi-vendor
- Plug-in connection technology
- Remote area power stations
- Micro grid power generation
- Standby power generation
- Grid connected power generation
- Off grid power generation
- Mining
- Oil and gas
- Commercial
