SAMPLING

SAMPLE CONTAINER FOR TAKING REPRESENTATIVE OIL SAMPLES

Suitable sample containers are essential for obtaining accurate oil analysis results. Martechnic ® offers a range of sample bottles that have been developed for fuel, lubricating and hydraulic oils, as well as for water, alcohol and acid. The sample bottles differ in shape, size and material depending on the desired substance for sampling.

Small sample bottles of 120 ml are suitable for representative samples of lubricating and hydraulic oil. Their tamper-evident seal with screw-on lids enables quick and effortless sampling. The bottles are automatically sealed by screwing on the lids. The sample bottles are practical for various applications.

MARPOL FUEL SAMPLES

In accordance with MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI, a representative fuel sample must be taken during the bunker process and a bunker certificate must be issued.

In accordance with the guidelines of Appendix 7 of MEPC.182 (59) regarding the removal of the primary cob during the bunker process, Martechnic ® has developed a hand-operated sampler "Drip Sampler" with a fixed Cubitainer (5 or 10 l). A single numbered sealing strip is pulled through the mounting holes on the Drip Sampler and the Cubitainer and fastened, and the Cubitainer is sealed airtight with the Drip Sampler. This system protects against manipulation or contamination of the sample during the delivery of the bunker. In addition, this method does not limit manual valve operation, and adjustment is possible to primarily control the flow during sampling.

Accurate and safe handling and storage of the reserve samples is an essential requirement of MARPOL. Because the quantity of each reserve sample should not be less than 400 ml, and since at least four samples are required in practice, the sample bottles are available from Martechnic ® in suitable sizes of 500 or 1000 ml . Each bottle with the reserve sample of fuel has a correct label made of a tear-resistant and oil-resistant material. This combination is then secured with a forgery-proof seal with an individual number directly on the seal, instead of on a bottle cap.

This combination of the sample bottle, the label and the seal prevents the exchange of the original label or the seal number. This is an important advantage in order to ensure the accuracy of the information provided on the reserve sample of fuel.

DRIP SAMPLER

Fuel sampling device

A representative fuel sample is an essential prerequisite for accurate and reliable test results. Martechnic ® offers an in-line sampling device DRIP SAMPLER to take representative fuel samples during the bunker process, in accordance with the regulations of MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI. To ensure effective protection against manipulation or contamination of the sample during the entire bunker process, the Cubitainer is attached to the sampler and sealed airtight with a single numbered sealing strip. Appropriate sampling not only provides evidence of oil quality and condition, but also meets environmental standards.

 FEATURES

  • Material: high quality stainless steel (SUS304 / 1Cr18Ni9)

  • Size: 4 ”- 12”

  • Weight: 8-28 kg

 ADVANTAGES

  • Representative fuel samples

  • Continuous sampling during the bunker process

  • Easy installation on all common flanges

  • Sampling approved by MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI

Samplers are provided by Martechnic ® in various sizes . The following parameters must be taken into account for the correct selection:

  • 1. Outside diameter

  • 2. Pitch circle diameter

  • 3. Hole diameter

The PDF document (for download) contains a table with a variety of DRIP SAMPLER configurations. On request, customized sampling devices can be designed for special applications.

DRIP SAMPLER PRESSURE PLUS

Sampler with optimized back pressure

For the most efficient fuel extraction and accurate and reliable test results, Martechnic ® has developed an improved version of the DRIP SAMPLER sampler in close cooperation with Germanischer Lloyd. The new model of the inline sampling device - the DRIP SAMPLER PRESSURE PLUS - has been developed to optimize the outlet pressure and enables effective continuous sampling.

 FEATURES

  • Material: high quality stainless steel (SUS304 / 1Cr18Ni9)

  • Size: available in three sizes to cover the range from DN 80 to DN 300

 ADVANTAGES

  • Representative fuel samples

  • Optimized back pressure

  • 3-hole connection on welded flange to ensure the correct flow direction for sampling

  • Sampling approved by MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI

The DRIP SAMPLER PRESSURE PLUS helps to overcome the challenges of the turbulent flow of fuel in a bunker line as well as the pressure loss and the occurrence of negative pressure. The improved practical design of the device with the three-hole connection enables easy installation. Reliable protection against manipulation or external contamination of the fuel sample during the delivery of the bunker is guaranteed by connecting the DRIP SAMPLERS PRESSURE PLUS to the airtight Cubitainer, which is sealed by a single numbered sealing strip (see the PDF file). In summer 2013, the DRIP SAMPLER PRESSURE PLUS became an integral part of DIN 86210.

SAMPLE BOTTLES

The sample containers are of great importance for representative sampling. Depending on the sampling of fuel, lubricating or hydraulic oil, Martechnic ® offers safe sample containers that differ in shape, size and material.

 SIZES

  • Round bottles: 120 ml, 500 ml, 1000 ml

  • Square bottles: 50 ml, 100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 1000 ml

  • Cubitainer: 5 l, 10 l

For example, the small sample bottles of 120 ml with caps for an airtight seal are ideal for oil samples of lubricating or hydraulic oil. The sample bottles are automatically sealed by screwing on the lid and therefore reliably protected against manipulation or any external contamination of the oil sample.

The Martechnic ® Cubitainers for the primary fuel samples and the sample bottles for the reserve samples are in full compliance with MARPOL 73/78 Annex VI. The decisive advantage of the sample container is the right method of sealing and labeling (see the PDF file). Customized sample bottles from Martechnic ® can be provided on request .

SAMPLING EQUIPMENT

Fast sampling

The SAMPLE EQUIPMENT from Martechnic ® offers a simple and practical method to obtain representative samples of fuel, lubricating and hydraulic oil that meet the internationally recognized sampling standards. A sample is taken with the help of the flexible hose and pumped into a sample bottle through the vacuum pump, which is coupled with an adapter. The built-in adjustable telescopic rod enables flexible sampling either from above, from the middle or from the bottom of the oil tank.

 FEATURES

  • Measuring time: approx. 2 minutes

  • Usability of the sample bottles:

  • water

  • Emulsions

  • Low-viscosity mineral oils (up to a viscosity of 1200 mm² / s at 20 ° C)

 ADVANTAGES

  • Extendable telescopic rod for flexible sampling

  • Representative oil samples

  • Rapid detection of free water in the oil tank

  • Fixed iron shavings on the magnetic head of the telescopic rod can indicate wear

The decisive advantage of the SAMPLING EQUIPMENT is the direct determination of free water in the oil tank. Before the equipment is immersed in the oil, a special paste must be applied to the magnetic head of the telescopic rod. The color of the paste changes to red as soon as open water is detected. In addition, the magnetic head collects the iron filings on its surface, if they are present in the oil, and thus helps to determine a possible friction process.
